WebRTC Troubleshooter: Troubleshoot Your WebRTC Connection Now
1. Click the Green START button in the upper right-hand corner to begin the troubleshooter.
2. The WebRTC Test will run through each category (Microphone, Camera, Network, Connectivity, and Throughput), testing each component.
3. If a component passes, a green check will appear. If the troubleshooter discovers an error, a triangle with an exclamation will appear. You can click the component for more information.
4. Once finished, all categories and components will have a symbol next to them.
What Is Bandwidth?
Bandwidth is like lanes on a highway. It allows for more traffic to go through at once, while still retaining high speeds. For example, a one car in one lane can run at a high speed. Similarly, one network request can perform with a low bandwidth. But consider this, what happens when many simultaneous requests are "hitting" your network and your speed is low? You got it, it will cause slow performance or even worse, not be able to perform the task requested.
Bandwidth is almost always linked to one or two specific activities with the same characteristics. Large amounts of data and extended duration.
For example, here are some very common bandwidth causing activities:
- Watching movies from the Internet
- Backing up files or transferring files
- Security cameras with a constant data stream
- Downloading files or gaming from the Internet
You could add other examples, I'm sure. But, when you are using an online live streaming application like Jigsaw, you need to be aware and understand, a solid and steady connection is critical. If you don't have a stable connection, you can experience video and audio delays as well as slow performance in other areas of the application.
Best Practices For Mitigating Connection Issues
1. Use an Ethernet (network) cable. This cable should give you a faster and more reliable connection.
2. Confirm other simultaneous requests are not hitting your network.
3. Confirm the hardware supports your needs.
4. If using the web cam, adjust camera resolution to require less bandwidth.
5. Ensure the browser you're using is up to date.
6. Position router in an area with as few obstructions and interference as possible.
7. If wireless, check settings for best speeds and secure to ensure no one else is using your network.
8. Confirm background applications are not running which may be using your CPU and slowing down your computer. For example: Skype, Backups, System Updates, Antivirus Software, etc.)
9. Confirm you're not in a "traffic jam" on your network. Time of day you're online can impact as well. And keep in mind, many phone systems are VoIP; therefore, potentially adding stress to the network.
10. Contact your ISP (Internet Service Provider) and request new server routing for improved performance.
